The Library 2.0 has opened so many doors of interesting and interactive tools I don't know were to start. First I must thank YPRL for their support and enthusiasm. I have learnt alot about the Internet and the many and vaired tools which individuals can utilise.
As I work at differnet branches the common theme was the "Blog" word and individuals talking about different sections of Library 2.0 and what are they upto and how they didn't understand a certain lesson. Library 2.0 has overcome the age barrier where the young and old are helping each other and communicating about their "Blog". Prior to Library 2.0 you would not have heard the word Flickr, Online image generator, RSS feeds, LibraryThing and the list grows - now it is all around us, I have great pleasure asking my nephews have you heard about this tool....no they say, I will show you. (yes Aunty Jane is still on top!).

My favourite tools would have to be: RSS feeds, LibraryThing, Del.icio.us I will certainly use in the future.

Well that is the end of the blog enjoy the lovely Rover Cars

Happy Rovering

Week 9: Audiobooks (The end is in sight)

As we couldn't access the Net Library, we were instructed to visist World ebook fair, from there I went into Gutenberg Project with showed a list of free ebooks. Ebooks are a wonderful invention for individuals who can't hold a book but can type and see the screen, it is also for the very busy individuals who haven't got time to sit and read the entire book and only want a certain section, or if a book which has gone out of print but is available in ebook. I have used this service via YPRL home page - Net Library for a number of patrons and was disappointed the service is not available.

I went into Gutenberg Project and listerned to the Little Match Girl - you can either listern to a human (American voice) or a computerised voice. I was very impressed with the PLCM blog where it explains what a Wiki is and I agreee with the disadvantages where anybody can edit or alter and there is very little editorial control over the content.

I enjoyed reading the Webjunction and have a link into their display content page where it takes you step by step into every area. By reading this site it has given me a better understanding of a Wiki and the benefits a Wiki would be for the Community and for libraries.

This segment has given me a better understanding of a Wiki. Perhaps YPRL could create a Wiki for each council where residents could write about any topic in their community, certainly food for thought, or should that be a Wiki thought!

My thought for the day, I will look at a Wiki with new eyes, but will certainly inform indviduals to check with a more reliable source especially with school research projects.

Week 6: Technorati & Web 2.0

Technorati is a very interesting site, I love how you can tag any topic by key word search or even a blog. The Technorati could be addictive just like "blogger".

Library 2.0 illustrates to us and the rest of the users in the world the Internet is constantly changing and challenging us all to jump on board and go for the ride, it doesn't matter if you fall off, get back on and try again, one important aspect I have learnt is you must play and learn by your mistakes.

I will use Delicious, Librarything, Flickr for my own personal use while as an YPRL trainer I will be certainly utilising my newly acquired skills to show members of the public how they too can find enjoyment and enjoy the wonders of the Internet revolution

Week 6: Tagging and discover Del.icio.us

I was very impressed with "Librarything" where you could tag your books, but Del.icio.us the possibilities are endless, this would be a very useful resource at a library as it allows you to bookmark a web page and then add tags to categorise each web page. This is such a useful and easy tool to use, I especially like the tagging - great fun, this would be very useful in the Rosanna library where we have a number of bookclubs utilizing our collection and it could be kept at the reference desk for staff and book club individuals to access. I certainly found hundreds when I listed "Cars" and yes I did narrow the search down to "Rover", not a lot of hits.

I managed to add 6 feeds to my bloglines account, the "ABC television guide" has the most feeds - the information is up to date and concise - you don't have to waste time searching for various sites to read. I have seen on various sites "RSS, XML or ATOM and the orange box never knew what they were and thanks to "Library 2.0" I now know, will certainly investigate the RSS link when I am teaching my Internet students at Rosanna Library.

I had a play searching for RSS in relation to Libraries, found the University of Oklahoma Libraries has a pilot project , they have a select content which is available through the RSS.. What a wonderful opportunity where individuals can access the RSS for a particular subject and the RSS brings up the relevant books - perhaps YPRL could have a RSS feed!

You could get really addictive with "RSS" and in this very busy world we live in this new technology is brillaint!!!!
click here Here is one of my bloglines feed - I hope it works!

Week3: Technology 7

Digital Cameras - they are a wonderful tool. The first true digital camera that recorded images as a computerized file was the Fuji DS-1P in 1988, the first commercially available Digital camera was the 1991 Kodak DCS-100. The Digital camera is so easy to work (some people have stated). I have heard they are hard to operate and you can delete photos by mistake and you can't retrieve them? If you take a picture not to your liking you can delete the photo, where if you have a camera which requires "film" you can't delete the picture.

As an archivist for the Car Club I have found the Digital cameras can be a problem, members forget to send me the file or print out copies on A4 paper not the special photoshop quality, sometimes the file has been deleted by mistake and can't be resurrected.

So that is why I have the "old fashioned" Olympus 140 with film, so when I take a photo I can have the film developed and place the appropriate photos in the club albums.

I realise the "old fashion" film cameras will eventually fade, but at the moment I am happy with mine and yes I realise technology will catch up with me eventually --- but not yet!

Week3: Photos & Images 5 & 6

Exploring Flickr is amazing and so time consuming, the afternoon has just disappeared. I am very impressed with "tagging", this allows you complete freedom of a subject of your choice and gives you the opportunity to "share" photos with family and friends.
Well as I am a car buff, yes I searched Flickr to see how many photos of "Rover cars" were listed and I had 1,856 hits, if I typed in "Rover Turbine" I had 10 hits, Rover engineers worked on this project in their spare time. They went home and made parts prototypes from papier mache.
Sadly their project was eclipsed by Chrysler's own gas turbine car, which of course had the full backing and finance of Chrysler.

I played with Flickr Color Pickr and what a site, magnificient photos and breath taking colours you could spend hours looking at all the wonderful photos.
Flickr is certainly a wonderful tool for any individual who has access to the internet.

Stay tuned for the next session and happy Rovering

Week 1: Introduction & Week 2: Blogging

Well I finally made it, took me a while to actually sit down and listern to Learning 2.o But one must always check the equipment and ensure the speakers are turned on - you know that on and off button!

The 7 & 1/2 Habits online tutorial was very interesting as we are constantly utilising all the Habits that was stated.

If you have a goal keep on going until it is achievable.

Have confidence and believe in yourself to achieve your goal no matter what it is.
